From Bond Measure to Bright Futures: LBCC Launches Revitalized Periwinkle Child Development Center

Linn-Benton Community College proudly announces the forthcoming reopening of the Periwinkle Child Development Center, an initiative made possible through the successful passage of GO Bond 22-190. With the renovation work nearing completion, the Periwinkle Center has undergone a remarkable transformation into a beautiful space designed to cater to the needs of children, parents, and serve as a cutting-edge lab school for LBCC's Early Childhood Education students.

"Thanks to the support of our community, we have been able to revitalize the Periwinkle Center into a vibrant and welcoming space for learning and development," said Dr. Lisa Avery, President of LBCC. "Access to affordable childcare removes barriers for students who are working parents, allowing them to finish their degrees and pursue meaningful careers in our community.”

Key Highlights of the Periwinkle Child Development Center:

  1. Priority Access for the LBCC Community: The Periwinkle Child Development Center will initially prioritize LBCC students and employees. As space becomes available, families in the community will also be welcomed.
  2. Classroom Offerings: The center will open with two classrooms dedicated to 3 to 5-year-olds, providing a total of 36 slots. Additional classrooms for 3 to 5-year-olds and a toddler classroom will be introduced in the fall. Each classroom will have a bilingual (English/Spanish) teacher, enhancing the educational experience for young learners.
  3. Preservation of Periwinkle Center's Legacy: The cherished mosaic of children's handprints from the original Periwinkle Center has been carefully preserved. This iconic artwork will warmly greet a new generation of families as they enter the center, symbolizing continuity and the enduring spirit of community.

Anyone who is interested is welcome to apply for enrollment. Applications are currently being accepted for the upcoming winter term.

LBCC remains committed to fostering a supportive and enriching educational environment for its community. The Periwinkle Child Development Center embodies the college's dedication to education, community engagement, and the well-being of its members.
