Anti-Virus and Computer Virus Information

Is Your Virus Protection Current?

"Definitions" are files that Symantec Endpoint Protection uses to keep the your computer safe from the newest threats. Symantec should automatically update the Definitions on LBCC computers. To make sure your computer is getting current Definition files, you'll need to open Symantec Endpoint Protection and take a look. Here's how:

Open Symantec Endpoint Protection by right-clicking the yellow Symantec icon on the right end of the Windows Desktop taskbar (see below) or Search for 'Symantec' on your Windows 10 computer.

Note the Definitions date for each security component installed on your computer.

The "Virus and Spyware Protection" Definition date should never be more than 2 days old.

NEED TO UPDATE YOUR DEFINITIONS?

If the "Virus and Spyware Protection" Definitions date is older than 2 days, click "LiveUpdate..." on the left and a download of current definition files will begin. Either wait a moment to confirm success, or open Symantec later to confirm that current Definitions are now in use.

"Proactive Threat Protection" and "Network Threat Protection" definitions are often older than 2 days, but should never be more than 30 days old. The "LiveUpdate..." download will include definitions for all three security components.

IMPORTANT: If your virus definitions are not getting updated automatically, please call the HelpDesk and let us know, so we can fix it.
