    Diagnostic Imaging is an exciting, dynamic, and progressive field. Getting certified in general radiography opens the door for pathways towards specialty imaging modalities like CT, MRI, mammography, and more. According to the United States Department of Labor, the expected growth rate in this field is above the national average, with anticipated growth of 9% over the next 10 years. Radiologic technologists, or x-ray techs, perform diagnostic imaging examinations in both clinic and hospital settings. Interpersonal communication is an important skill in the field of imaging; if you like working with people, are adaptable to an ever-changing environment and enjoy technology, then this is the field for you!

    2019 Program Statistics

    Median Earnings: Annual Openings:
    Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements. Prepares patient for radiological procedure by positioning patient; adjusting immobilization devices; moving equipment into specific position; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors. Minimizes radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors. Maintains production and quality of radiographs by following established standards and procedures; developing radiographs; observing radiographic results; making necessary adjustments.

    CT Technologist Median Earnings: $66414.40 Annual Openings: 54
    Performs high-quality computerized tomography procedures including patient evaluation and appropriate technical factors in order to obtain diagnostic images. Perform the appropriate exam based on patient information through collaboration with the interpreting and ordering providers. Provide excellent patient care throughout the exam to include education the patient on what they should expect during the procedure.
    The median hourly earning for this career is $31.93/hr.

  • Distance Education

    Delivery Model and Technical Requirements

    Linn-Benton Community College offers both a traditional face-to-face instructional program and a distance education program for Diagnostic Imaging. Using a combination of clinical instruction, online courses within the college learning management system, and the synchronous virtual classroom environment, distance education students can receive dynamic instruction to help them achieve their learning goals while remaining in the local community of one of our partner community colleges:

    Students are required to meet admission criteria of the partner community college which includes geographical residency.

As of May 2017, we moved into a new building with state-of-the-art imaging equipment! The new Healthcare Occupations Center is focused on healthcare and allows us to collaborate with other healthcare programs at LBCC.
