2016 Distinguished Alumni: Sara Krainik & Dan Segel


Sara KrainikSara Krainik - Corvallis Arts Center Coordinator

Sara Krainik, of Corvallis, attended LBCC from 1989 to 1991, taking graphic design and art classes. As coordinator of the Corvallis Arts Center ArtsCare program, Sara helps place artists in a medical environment to work with patients, offers workshops to cancer survivors, and utilizes artists’ talents to beautify and humanize medical environments. Sara volunteers her design, production and marketing services to the Arts Center, including pro bono branding for the organization, and is a volunteer for the Arts Center’s “Chocolate Fantasy” fund raiser, serving five years as a board member. She has donated design work to the Corvallis Clinic’s “Puttin’ on the Pink” fund raiser to combat cancer, and dedicates her time to mentoring artists and expanding the reach of art in our community.


Dan SegelDan Segel - President, Corvallis Knights Baseball

Dan Segel, of Portland, attended LBCC from 1985 to 1986 and was a member of the LBCC baseball team. He transferred to NW Missouri State where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and management while playing baseball and earning all-Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association honors. Dan has been the driving force behind the reinstatement of LBCC’s baseball program and the redesign of LBCC athletic programs to emphasize completion and community engagement for student-athletes. Dan leads LBCC’s Athletics Advisory Board, and has been essential in fund raising and community outreach efforts. Dan cofounded the Aloha Knights, now Corvallis Knights, as a semi-pro team in 1990. The team was incorporated in 2002 and renamed Knights Baseball Club. The club relocated from Gresham to Corvallis in 2007, and was renamed the Corvallis Knights, and is one of the most winning baseball clubs in the West Coast League. The Knights are committed to providing a place for college baseball players to develop their talents, and to providing the community with high-quality and affordable sports entertainment during the summer. In 2005, Dan was inducted into the Northwest Athletic Association Hall of Fame.
