Checking out books and DVDs
You can place a hold on an item at LBCC or a partner library using the Library Catalog. To check out a book, you can use any form of photo ID. You may also use a library
card from any member library of the Linn Libraries Consortium. If you want to know
more about checkout periods, late fees, etc., see the circulation policy.
Library users need to show one of the following to check out library materials:
- LBCC ID card
- OSU ID card
- Government-issued photo ID
- Library card from any member of the Linn Libraries Consortium
- High School ID card
- Passports

- Books
- Course textbooks

Accessing course textbooks
Course reserves are available either for two-hour checkout for in-building use or,
for some titles, one-week checkout.
The LBCC library's reserves collection assists students who may be in need of a short-term
loan of a class book or textbook. While the collection has many textbooks, it does
not have all books used in all LBCC courses. The Library encourages students to use
the collection to aid them when waiting for financial aid or for their textbooks to
arrive in the bookstore; it is generally not a good practice to rely upon the collection
for an entire term as a particular reserve book might have to be shared amongst 20-60
students.
Reserve items generally check out for either two hours or one week. Two-hour items
must remain in the building. There is a photocopier and a book scanner in the Albany
campus library. The HOC library in Lebanon has a scanner located near the emergency
exit. LBCC students are expected to comply with copyright laws. Making copies of short passages for personal use may fall within fair use.
Please note that, in accordance with the library's circulation policy, significant or repeated failure to return library items (including technology)
may result in suspension of a library user's borrowing privileges.
|
- Ask your instructor to see if a copy of the item may be placed in the library's reserves
collection.
- Contact the Roadrunner Resource Center for assistance if you can't afford your course materials.

Using the Linn Libraries Consortium
In addition to resources at LBCC, you can use FindIt to locate and request books and
DVDs at other libraries in the Linn Libraries Consortium.
Requesting an Interlibrary Loan
We can also work with partner libraries across the US to get you the books, DVDs,
articles, and other resources students and employees need.
Request an interlibrary loan by completing this form. You may also request a paper interlibrary loan form from the circulation desk.
Interlibrary loan is a courtesy service provided by many libraries allowing patrons
to order and receive materials from other libraries.
Interlibrary loan (ILL) lets LBCC students, faculty, and staff obtain materials that
are not available in the LBCC library. The library requests them for you from another
library. Please limit your requests to five a week and do check your local library
catalog before requesting ILLs.
Note: Interlibrary loan services are available only during academic terms and limited
to current LBCC students, faculty, and staff.
|
Current LBCC students, faculty, and staff may use the library's interlibrary loan
service. |
Requests generally take one to two weeks to complete. It may take a week or more to
fill requests for whole books. You will be contacted by email, phone, and/or mail. |
The LBCC library will place requests for all types of library materials. The following
types of materials, however, may be difficult for the library to obtain: textbooks,
CDs/DVDs/VHS, dissertations, rare books. |
The checkout duration is set by the lending library, so it will vary. Two weeks is
a common loan period for interlibrary loan items. LBCC library staff will inform you
of the return date when you pick up materials. Ask library staff if renewal is possible. |
Distance learning students may request that items be mailed to them if they are unable
to come to the library. Those requesting mail service become responsible for the cost
of any borrowed items and are also responsible for the return postage. |
Using the Library for the General Public
Anybody age 14 or older can come to the LBCC Library and become a public patron. Please
fill out our registration form, being sure to choose LBCC as your home library. Be prepared to show us a government-issued
photo ID. Once in our system, you will have the same borrowing privileges (and the
same late penalties) as LBCC students, except for:
- Interlibrary loans - reserved for LBCC students and employees
- Laptops and hotspots - reserved for LBCC students
- Course textbooks - reserved for LBCC students

The library is located on the first floor of Willamette Hall on the Albany campus.

have the resources you need for success, including comfortable space for collaborative
work or quiet study and computers with internet access, printing, copying, and scanning.
Our main library even has a private room for quiet reflection, prayer, or lactation.
