The Parenting Education Department promotes the development of knowledge and skills for strong families through workshops and classes. Programs are offered at the Benton Center and other rural Benton Center locations to serve parents and other primary caregivers and professionals working with parents.
- Live & Learn with Your Baby
Your baby is born learning! Come join other parents/caregivers and their babies as you prepare your child for a lifetime of learning. Learn how to support your child’s emotional, physical, and intellectual development through songs, activities, and group discussions. All while building a community of support and lifelong friends for you and your baby.
- Live & Learn with Your Wobbler
For parents/caregivers and their beginning walkers, approximately 9 mos. to 18 mos. Participate with your “wobbler” in songs and games, meet other parents in the community, and discuss the latest ideas about how to support the expanding growth of your child’s first year.
- Live & Learn with Your Toddler
For parents and toddlers to 2-year-olds. Learn fun and easy ways to support your child’s development and discuss the challenges of parenting toddlers. This class is a great way to spend quality time with your child while engaging with other parents.
- Live & Learn with Your 2-Year-Old
Join your child in play, experimentation, exploration, discovery, songs, stories and movement! 2-year- olds and their parents will focus on sharing books, stories, storytelling, and song and how they relate to language development and pre-literacy skills. Parents discuss parenting topics in class and attend parent only night sessions to extend the parent education topics.
- Creative Development
An art enrichment class with an emphasis on creative activities for 2 ½ to 5-year-olds and their parents/caregivers. We do the messy projects you may not want to do at home. In two evening sessions, parents focus on understanding and planning activities that optimize children’s development.
- Live & Learn with Your Preschooler
A preschool cooperative for families and their 3, 4 & 5 year olds. Preschool activities foster growth, development and school readiness. Adults attend evening sessions and take turns assisting the teacher in the pre-school lab. Parents expand their knowledge of parenting, and practice guidance and communication techniques.
