International Vacation Term Policy

Purpose

Statement

An F-1 international student is required to study full-time (12 credits, nine credits in-person) for a minimum of three terms per year. One term per year can be taken as a vacation term, during which the student is not required to be enrolled full-time. Vacation term is usually taken during the summer term, due to limited course offerings. International students are eligible for a SEVIS-authorized vacation term after having studied full-time for three consecutive terms (one term after another). If a student arrived at LBCC in initial status (not transfer status) in winter or spring terms, they may be allowed to take summer as a vacation term provided that they register for the following fall term and are maintaining their student status. This must be approved by an international advisor prior to the end of spring term.

During a vacation term, a student must pay for health insurance if remaining in the U.S. and must register for the term following the vacation term and return to study at LBCC. After a student takes a vacation term, the student will not be eligible for another vacation term until after studying full-time for three consecutive terms.

Vacation terms cannot be taken if a student has not studied full-time for three consecutive terms since their last vacation term unless approved by an international advisor; they cannot be taken before transferring to another school; and they cannot be taken in their last term, or after graduation.
