SWPTS
Project Overview

A nine member Board of Directors leads the SWPTS. Board members represent industry, education, an industry association and public agencies. Incremental, coordinated steps with full cooperation from a variety of partners is important to the long-term success of this training and delivery system and continued industry support is critical. Therefore, industry is actively involved and provides many resources (time, equipment, materials, counsel, and active work) for this program.

The Oregon Economic and Community Development Department is providing current funding for the program in cooperation with Regional Investment Groups from Southeast Oregon, Linn-Lincoln-Lane-Benton, Multnomah/Washington and the Department of Labor through the Oregon Community College and Workforce Development Department. Companies receiving training will provide cash match as well as In-Kind match.

The original project anticipated being self-sustaining at the end of two years of grant support but operational reality proved the need for continuing support from external funding agencies. These funds are providing much greater training results than originally anticipated. As a result, present funding levels will enable the program to continue uninterrupted for an extended period.

The original program involved mostly trainings provided by Central Oregon Community College, Lane Community College and Linn-Benton Community College. One of the major goals at present is to involve the entire community college system within the state in delivering training to companies within their respective service areas.
