LBCC Students To Be Honored by Governor

Students Alisha Haskett and Willard Hucks will be honored at a luncheon with Governor John Kitzhaber and the Oregon Community College Association (OCCA) April 22.

Haskett, a networking and systems administration major, and Hucks, an accounting technology major, were chosen to represent LBCC on the OCCA All Oregon Academic Team.

Each will receive a plaque from the OCCA and a $1,000 scholarship from Oregon State University, where they plan to transfer to after finishing their LBCC degrees.

Both students are on LBCC's honor roll. In addition, Haskett provides peer tutoring, vocal ID and voice donation.

"I am the first from my family to attend college and have planned to go since I was young," said Haskett.

"My mother was a millworker, and she instilled in me an appreciation of education that has carried me up and out of the poverty stricken life that I would have led otherwise," said Hucks. "When one is not moving forward, they are sliding backwards. I plan to use my education to constantly improve the lives of my family and community."

Yearly, the Oregon Community College Association, in partnership with Phi Theta Kappa, recognizes outstanding students from Oregon’s community colleges.
