Animal Science

The Animal Science Department at Linn Benton Community College provides professional/technical and transfer education in a variety of subject areas. Associate of Applied Science degrees in Animal Technology and Horse Management are available for students wishing to enter the workforce after two years. Associate of Science degrees in Animal Science, Agriculture Business Management and Agriculture Education are offered for students wishing to transfer on to nearby Oregon State University or some other four year institution. The programs are designed to provide a balance between classroom learning and hands-on experience. Students will have the opportunity to learn in a variety of practical learning environments ranging from the computer lab to the sheep barn, from the classroom to the breeding shed, from the library to the blacksmith forge.

An important part of the department is the Livestock Judging program. Linn Benton has fielded the most competitive intercollegiate livestock judging team on the West Coast for the past 25 years. Students who participate in this activity compete at regional and national contests.

The Horse Management program is another vital part of the department. Housed in a modern facility, this program emphasizes breeding management and training. Students from all over the nation attend Linn Benton Community College to study in our equine science program.

Students who attend Linn Benton Community College in the Animal Science department will experience the best education available, whether planning to enter the job market after two years or go on to a four year institution.
