THE HALF WAY POINT ...
As we reach the halfway point in the season, the LBCC Roadrunner volleyball team sits at 5-0 in league and 23-4 overall.  The team is currently ranked number one in the NWAACC conference and is number one in the Southern Region.

Pre-Season Tournaments:

The team placed third at the opening tournament the first weekend in September at Chemeketa C.C.  At the second pre-season tournament in Spokane, the team lost only one match to Northern Idaho College in the championships.  Mona Goudarzian and Julianna Evola were selected as all-tournament and Hannah Bell was MVP of the tournament.  At the third tournament held at Tacoma C.C.,  Linn-Benton went 5-0 on the weekend beating the host team, Tacoma, in the championship match.  Lindsay Verboort was selected to the all-tournament team and Hannah Bell was the tournament MVP.

League Highlights:

In weeks one and two of play, Hannah Bell and Lacy Wood were selected as offensive player of the week for the Southern Region.  Hannah Bell was selected as NWAACC player of the week for week one.

The Roadrunners head off to the Pierce cross-over tournament the weekend of October 14th-15th and then start the second half of league on Wednesday, October 19th facing Mt. Hood C.C. (at Mt. Hood) during a “Dig Pink for Cancer” match-up.

In the classroom:

Academically, last year's 2010-11 Roadrunner team narrowly missed receiving the AVCA All-American Academic Award for the second year in a row.  The team earned a cumulative gpa of 3.27 and a 3.3 was required.

This 2011 team is focused on academics and striving for another successful year in the classroom.  Sophomores Julianna Evola, Lacy Wood and Mona Goudarzian will all be recipients of the 2011 NWAACC All-Academic Team award as they were able to maintain above a 3.25 into their sophomore year of competition.

The team:

This team is a very well rounded group of individuals.  They bonded from the start both athletically and socially.  They have fun together but understand the need for hard work and solid effort when they step in the weight room and onto the court.  There is a constant competitive spirit in this group that pushes them to get better every day.

Thank you for your support of this team.  Hope to see you in the stands as we attack the second half!

COACH'S OUTLOOK:
The Roadrunners will be a good mix of experience and youth. We have added twelve new Freshman to the team, returning two starting sophomores from last year's squad and bringing in two transfer sophomores from Division two level volleyball programs. We will be exciting to watch as we have relentless defense in our key backcourt players and a hard-hitting offense. We are led by returning sophomore Julianna Evola at the setter position.
