Transfer Tips
LBCC offers two transfer degrees: Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer Degree and Associate of Science Degree (Oregon State Direct Transfer.) - http://po.linnbenton.edu/catalogarchives/2010LBCC177-187%20Appendices.pdf
What is articulation?
Articulation, for the purposes of student transfer between campuses, refers specifically to “course articulation”, e.g., the process of developing an agreement and/or advising guide that identifies courses (or a sequence of courses) that are comparable to, or acceptable in lieu of, specific course requirements at the receiving institution.
Which courses will transfer?
The majority of LBCC courses that are 100 and 200 level classes will transfer to a four-year institution. Also, many of the courses with decimal points will transfer to specific schools and specific programs.
How many credits does it take to transfer? How many credits can I take at LBCC? Is there a minimum grade point average (GPA)?
The answers to all these questions vary from school to school. It is best to use university website and/or contact your university of choice for the specific requirements.
What is General Education?
General Education usually consists of a set number of credits in Arts and Letters, Social Science, and Math and Science. This also varies by school so check with your university of choice.
Do I need an associate degree to transfer?
No. Once you have met the transfer requirements for the college/university you plan to attend, you are eligible to transfer. If you are in the LBCC/OSU Degree Partnership Program, you may take classes at OSU any time.
Quarter credit or Semester credit?
If you are considering completing your 4-year degree at a school on the semester system, be sure you understand the difference between quarter credit and semester credit:
60 semester credits x 1.5 = 90 quarter credits
OR
90 quarter credits x 2/3 = 60 semester credits
Will I pay in- our out-of-state tuition at a public Oregon University?
You pay resident tuition at LBCC if (1) you have lived in Oregon for at least 90 continuous days immediately preceding the term and can demonstrate your intent to become a permanent resident; (2) if you are an immigrant or (3) if you are a permanent resident of California, Idaho, Washington or Nevada.
This does not mean you will pay in-state tuition at any Oregon University System institution. To meet the OUS requirement, a financially independent person must be able to document a physical presence in Oregon for 12 consecutive months and, during that time, show that their activities were not primarily those of a student. Anyone who attends college for more than 8 credits a term is assumed to be in Oregon primarily to get an education and may not use that time period towards establishing residency. Anyone financially dependent on a parent or guardian who lives outside of Oregon cannot be an Oregon resident.
