Information for Club Members
CLUB FACTS:
- As a major source of life on campus, clubs provide opportunities for a social interaction unparalleled in the classroom or other extracurricular programs;
- Provide a feeling of belonging in a group which shares common interests,
- Usually have a curricular or special interest focus,
- Are eligible to use college facilities (rooms, vehicles, equipment) & services,
- May be eligible for funds from student fees, ideas for fundraising and other staff assistance.
CHARTERING YOUR CLUB:
Individuals who want to form a club should contact the clubs coordinator in the Student Life & Leadership office to obtain a Petition for Charter. Some tips for completing the form; keep in mind that the form is an application. Complete it carefully-include all necessary information-what you plan to do, group responsibility (officers and advisor), how can officers and advisor be reached, etc.
Steps:
1. confer with Club Coordinator in office to secure form,
2. complete and return form to office making sure you have:
• at least eight students who desire active membership in the club,
• stated the purpose and goals of the club,
• requested funded or non-funded status, (NOTE-in most cases a club can receive funding if it is not religious, political or affiliated with other divisional/SAP funding),
• signature, phone number and room number of a contracted LBCC staff member who will serve as advisor,
• name and phone number of one member who will serve as club council member.
3. recognition of the club will be made by the Associated Student Government,
4. clubs may develop individual operating procedures but must be within LBCC policies and guidelines,
Student Life & Leadership Office can help by:
• explaining college related policies and procedures
• guiding clubs over hurdles that may mean the difference between getting started and giving up,
• fundraising/programming ideas
• training sessions on meeting etiquette, communication, group dynamics, etc.
• providing publicity assistance as well as a mailbox for club use.
CLUB RIGHTS AND PRIVILEGES:
• official college recognition
• use of facilities for meetings and activities in accordance with Admin. Rule #D101
• on campus recruitment
• use of college services (vehicle use, printing, food services, etc.)
• financial assistance
• opportunity for $100 funding upon initial startup (funded clubs only)
• opportunity for additional financial support.
CLUB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• must have at least eight active, currently enrolled members
• must have LBCC contracted staff advisor
• must complete annual status report before the fourth week of Fall Term (no services/privileges are available to groups who do not have a completed report on file for current year),
• pursue stated goals and responsibilities
• follow all policies/procedures set forth in this document, as well as college administrative regulations/policies.
Recognition of the club may be withdrawn by a two-thirds vote of a club council if above responsibilities are not met.
CLUB RESERVE GRANT:
The Club Reserve Grant exists for the purpose of helping LBCC clubs/co-curricular organizations receive financial assistance for attending workshops, trainings, and conferences to enhance the educational opportunities for their members. The application will be reviewed by the Club Coordinator and a committee comprised of student representatives. All requests are limited to $500 per club/co-curricular organization per fiscal year.
