LBCC Multicultural Center Mission:       

The Multicultural Center provides opportunities for cultural competency, intellectual enrichment, educational access, and social justice.

LBCC Multicultural Center Vision:

The Multicultural Center provides a safe and supportive environment which nurtures self-discovery, enhances educational access, and promotes social justice. We are committed to fostering respectful dialogue for learning and the enrichment of our community.

Goals and Action Items:

  1. Increase cultural awareness through collaborative programs, workshops, displays and trainings.
    1. Strengthen the mutually beneficial relationship between minority leaders and LBCC by increasing collaboration in programs and events.
    2. Maintain relationships with the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence and Human Resources to support staff development opportunities.
    3. Support ongoing cultural competency learning by increasing the holdings of the multicultural library.
    4. Support student learning through comprehensive curricular and co-curricular programming.
    5. Prepare students to be members of a global society by enhancing student understanding of their local and global community.
    6. Expand Study Abroad opportunities for students.

 

  1. Develop community partnerships to assist student success
    1. Strengthen ties with community groups by providing opportunities for students to be active members in the community.
    2. Recognize the multilingual and multicultural nature of our community and provide opportunities for majority and minority community members to increase their cultural competency.
    3. Strengthen partnerships with local K-12 schools to enhance the comfort level of potential students
       
  2. Expand visibility and success of non-majority students on campus
    1. Expand opportunities for non-majority students to participate in co-curricular programs and leadership development.
    2. Provide retention activities that serve to enhance the success of minority students and students in gender imbalanced programs.
    3. Develop ongoing programs which serve to enhance the comfort and success levels of minority or underrepresented populations on campus.
