Should I use EVERYONE or Public
This is just a reminder about the college policy for sending mail to EVERYONE vs PUBLIC. Please take a moment to review it. Your cooperation in being a good e-mail citizen is appreciated.
LBCC COLLEGE E-MAIL POLICY
Our e-mail system lets us set up public groups to help employees manage their mail. To use a group, just put the group name in the 'To:' part of the message. When you receive an e-mail address, you are automatically added to two public groups, PUBLIC and EVERYONE. Everyone must belong to the EVERYONE group.
You may request that your e-mail address be removed from the PUBLIC group. Contact Lorrie at x4366 or e-mail PETERSL to have yourself removed from PUBLIC.
When to use PUBLIC vs EVERYONE
If you send a message which is not related to college business and is not a college sponsored activity (like kittens for sale, etc.), you should use the PUBLIC group and stop by the Business Office to pay for this 'want ad'. The fee is $2.00.
If you send a message that is for a volunteer/community organization (like tickets for a Rotary fund raiser), but is not college business, it should still be sent to PUBLIC but there is no fee.
If you send a message that is a college sponsored activity but is a general interest message, it should be sent to PUBLIC. There is no fee. Examples of this are: sales in the bookstore, items of furniture for trade, notifications of brown bag lunches, exhibit or play openings, etc.
Use the EVERYONE group only for college business that truly needs to be seen by every staff member, faculty, classified and management (including the President). Examples are payroll information, notices of building maintenance and storm closures.
The PUBLIC group is always more appropriate if you have doubts about which group to use. When you send either a PUBLIC or EVERYONE message, you will receive an automated E-mail reminder to delete your mail from All mailboxes when the event or message is no longer relevant.
Other Predefined Groups
Computer Services will be happy to help you set up customized groups for committees or departments to facilitate sending E-mail that should only be sent to certain employees. Contact Lorrie at x4366 or e-mail PETERSL for customized groups.
You can define your own private groups by choosing the Address Book function.
