Engagement=Retention and Success
LBCC uses two survey tools to assess "student engagement" - the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) and the Survey of Entering Student Engagement (SENSE).
- In the Spring of 2006 and again in 2008 with a Consortium of Oregon Community Colleges, LBCC conducted the Community College Survey of Entering Student Engagement (CCSSE).
- In the Fall of 2008, LBCC conducted the Survey of Entering Student Engagement (SENSE).
To learn more about these surveys, read the following. To learn more about LBCC's survey results click on the links to the left.
What is CCSSE?
This survey is a National/standardized instrument developed through the many collaborative and research-based efforts out of the Community College Leadership Program at the University of Texax, Austin. From their work, we know those "good educational practices that are directly related to retention and other desired student outcomes."
The survey "asks students about their college experiences — how they spend their time; what they feel they have gained from their classes; how they assess their relationships and interactions with faculty, counselors, and peers; what kinds of work they are challenged to do; how the college supports their learning; and so on." What is SENSE?
"SENSE is designed to provide a clear picture of both student behaviors in the earliest weeks of college and the institutional practices that affect students during this critical time"
The survey asks students "about their first impressions of the college; intake processes such as admissions, registration, assessment, placement, orientation and financial aid; how they spend their time as they begin college; how they assess their earliest relationships and interactions with instructors, advisors, and other students; what kinds of work they are challenged to do; how the college supports their learning in the first few weeks; and so on."
