Deleting and Retracting Messages
Deleting
Deleting a GroupWise e-mail message merely moves it to the GroupWise Trash area. If you delete a message that is in the Trash already, it will be removed from the hard-drive permanently. Be sure to Archive important messages that you do not want deleted under any circumstances!
Retracting
Retracting a message is useful if you discover you forgot to add something to a message you just sent (it is like 'taking it back'), or if you just got off the phone with that person and the e-mail message is now obsolete. You can only retract a message if your recipient has not opened (read) it.
If you send a message to PUBLIC or EVERYONE about a meeting, or retirement party, you should retract that message after the meeting or party has happened, so those who were away (on vacation, for instance) will not have to read it when they return .
To Delete or Retract a message:
Right-click the message you wish to delete or retract .
Click Delete from the menu that appears (see below).
Click 'My Mailbox' to delete this message from your mailbox only.
Click 'Recipients Mailbox' to retract a message from their inbox.
Remember that you can only do this if the recipient has not yet opened your message. If they have read it already, it is now 'theirs' and you can no longer take it back. For this reason, in cases where you have sent a message about a meeting, and forgot to mention the room number, for example, it is best to retract the message as quickly as possible, make the addition or correction, and then resend it.
Click 'All Mailboxes' to remove the message from all mailboxes.
Use this when no one, including yourself, needs this message anymore, like obsolete EVERYONE/PUBLIC messages, for instance.
