Turning Point Transitions
Turning Point is a program designed for single parents, displaced homemakers, dislocated workers, their spouses and others who are experiencing major life transitions. Turning Point is a free class offered at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, Oregon. Participants receive three college credits for the four-week class, which covers a wide range of topics to help participants during life transitions.
Turning Point offers optional services, such as support, referral services, personal counseling and career guidance. Financial assistance may be available for transportation and child care to those who qualify.
Turning Point participants receive the necessary tools to:
- Build confidence
- Raise self-esteem
- Explore anger
- Manage stress
- Identify values
- Set healthy boundaries
Turning Point participants learn to make more thoughtful career choices by learning how to:
- Set goals
- Identify and verbalize skills
- Evaluate job opportunities
- Construct effective resumes
- Interview successfully
- Select educational and training opportunities
Support Services
The Linn-Benton Community College Career and Counseling Center in Takena Hall offers participants and graduates assistance with career guidance, student employment, support and additional counseling as needed.
Program Information
Class size for Turning Point is limited. Potential students must schedule an interview the week before class begins by calling Joanne Apter at 917-4876. The class meets Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Turning Point is offered twice each term.
