Vickie Keith, Staff Development Assistant IA 232A, ext. 4968We provide a broad array of services for experienced faculty who desire to continue improving their teaching; newer faculty seeking assistance with curriculum and instruction; classified employees wanting to improve their skills or address workplace challenges; and managers who desire to improve their job performance or look for professional development opportunities.
Our goal is to promote excellence by providing access to resources, connecting faculty and staff across the campus, and offering confidential support and coaching. In addition, we help departments, committees, and project teams learn to function more productively.
Access to Resources
- We provide sets of comprehensive support materials – including books, pamphlets, newsletters, and videos – available to all staff in Room IA 225.
- We provide assistance with researching professional development opportunities and the preparation of grant requests for professional development.
- We provide information about on-campus and off-campus training and enrichment programs, including workshops, speakers, and conferences. We also track evaluation of these programs to identify the best options.
Support for Faculty, full-time and part-time
- We offer (or identify) training and support for the use of best classroom practices by LBCC faculty, including assistance with curriculum, teaching techniques and strategies, student assessment, classroom management, and more.
- We provide classroom observation and confidential feedback in response to requests from teachers, and we consult with instructors and supervisors on the faculty appraisal process.
- We arrange individual, confidential performance coaching on professional issues to help faculty improve teaching and learning, get better organized, deal with inter-personal conflicts, start a new job, manage email, and more. Call Alice Sperling for more information.
Support for Classified and Management
- We arrange confidential performance coaching for staff to help address professional challenges. (See full description above.)
- We offer training in conversational skills, decision-making, communications, conflict resolution, and other areas.
- We can design training to meet the needs of individuals or departments as needed or requested.
Team Building and Meeting Facilitation
- We offer training in meeting facilitation and conversational skills to help divisions, departments, committees, and campus work teams increase their productivity.
- We assist with planning and conducting department or division retreats for fall inservice, including direct facilitation when requested.
- We provide training in team-building, communications skills, and conflict resolution, and design training as requested or needed in other areas.
We provide – or will find – ways to help LBCC sustain and improve its educational quality, keeping it a rewarding place to work and learn.
