LBCC academic advisors are here to help you maximize your college experience. We want to help you be successful, whether you're a new student, returning student, or are currently enrolled. Academic advising is available to every student, but it is imperative for degree seeking students.

Fall Advising for Undecided and General Study students: Counselors are available by appointment between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. A drop-in counselor is available Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Drop-ins are first come, first serve. Why should I see an academic advisor?
To be successful! Meeting with your advisor will ensure that you are on the right track to complete your classes, certificate, or degree. Advisors can help with:

Course planning and resources
Long-term academic planning
Declaring a degree at LBCC or another college or university
Interpretation of College Placement Test (CPT) and transcripts from other colleges
Transfer requirements, registration procedures, and class scheduling
Petitioning for financial aid or graduation
Academic concerns or special needs
Referrals to another college, university, or community resources
CWE referral and information
Best person for the most accurate information in your certificate or degree area

When should I see an academic advisor?
New students
It is recommended that you see an academic advisor as soon as you have completed the enrollment process (admissions, testing, and orientation).
Continuing students
We encourage you to check in with your academic advisor at least once a term to ensure accurate completion of your certificate or degree.
Transferring student
If you are planning to transfer to another college or university, visit with your academic advisor. They can assist you with this process.
Graduating students
Congratulations! As you approach graduation you will want to meet with your academic advisor. Graduation applications are due at the end of the second week of the term in which you are applying for graduation. All applications must be signed by an advisor within your certificate or degree area.

What should I do before I see an academic advisor?

Complete the admissions process. See our printable "Getting Started" brochure for step by step, financial aid, and degree partnership (LBCC/OSU) information.
Familiarize yourself with your degree requirements by viewing the LBCC catalog online.
For Special Admission programs, print and review their "Special Admission Bulletin" packet.
Review classes offered in the term you plan to attend. Create a sample schedule of classes you plan to take.
Come prepared. Have test scores, previous transcripts, forms, or other important information with you.
Make a list of questions and bring them with you.
Transferring? Bring the certificate or degree requirements for the institution you plan to attend.

What is the difference between an Academic Advisor and a Counselor?

Academic Advisors

Academic advisors are faculty members who strive to provide you with the most up-to-date information pertaining to your certificate or degree.
Academic advisors can assist with academic planning, transfer advising, degree requirements, and academic problem solving.
Academic advisors are available to discuss current and future career opportunities, requirements for your major, and other resources available to assist you.

Counselors

Counselers at LBCC advise undecided and General Study students.
Counselors are trained professionals who assist with academic, personal, and career counseling.
Counselors can provide short-term personal counseling and referrals to community resources.
Counselors can assist new students with test College Placement Test (CPT) interpretation.

How do I find my Academic Advisor?

The current list of Academic Advisors can be viewed here. If you do not see your major represented, please stop in the Career and Counseling Center, Takena Hall, Rm 101 for assistance. Most Academic Advisors and instructors have personal web pages. Learn about their office hours, location, e-mails, and more here.

Undecided and General Study students should see a Counselor in the Career and Counseling Center, Takena Hall, Rm 101. Visit the Counseling web page for hours of operation and a list of current counselors.

Use this Time Analysis worksheet to determine the amount of time you can dedicate to your studies. This can help you decide if you are in the right program based on the amount of time you can commit to.
