The Nursing Assistant Program is a 150 hour course. It meets the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN) hours for Nursing Assistant training. The course has 75 hours of class and skills lab instruction and 75 hours of clinical hours. This course includes instruction in basic nursing skills, restorative care, personal care skills and patient rights. You will learn to care for residents in a long term care environment. After completing the course, you will have earned 9 LBCC credits and a Certificate of Completion. This program is an excellent path into health care careers.

Prerequisites:

  • A high school diploma or GED recommended
  • Proof of immunizations
  • College Placement Test Reading with a score of 31%
  • Criminal history check

This class includes heavy physical activity. You must be able to:

  • Turn and lift patients
  • Hear and see patients in need
  • Communicate with patients, families and co-workers
  • Make good decisions and take action in stressful situations
  • Read and keep medical records

NURSING ASSISTANT PROGRAM REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

Reading:
Any of the following may be used as proof of reading competency... 
     - Complete a College Placement Test with a score in the 31 percentile or better 
     - Complete Reading 80 with a grade of "C" or better
     - Transcripts from a college or university are also accepted.

To schedule a CPT test call the Student Assessment Center (541) 917-4781. You will need photo ID.

If you have already taken a reading placement test (since Sept. 1995) at LBCC and would like a copy of your results please contact the Student Assessment Center.

Medical Screening during Enrollment Process:
You will have direct contact with patients in this program and are required to provide documentation of a negative tuberculosis (TB) test within the last 9 months and proof of two MMR (measles/mumps/rubella) immunizations if born after January 1, 1957.

Law Enforcement Record Screening during Enrollment Process:
Mennonite Village requires you to have a criminal background check complete prior to being accepted into the class. A list of crimes that would disqualify you from the class is provided by Department of Human Services with the application packet. Please review the list and if you have been arrested or committed a crime call Oregon State Board of Nursing to review criminal status prior to application.

Samaritan Health requires you to have a criminal history background check completed prior to the class.  All necessary forms will be provided prior to acceptance into the program.

Student Drug Testing Notification:
Cooperating with the drug testing policies of any work experience, clinical, or cooperative teaching site is a condition for continued enrollment in the course and/or related academic program.
