Exploring Biotechnology: A Pathway
to Prosperity in Rural and Urban Oregon
?

Welcome to LBCC's National Science Foundation Advanced Technology Education Planning Grant information page.

The Central Willamette Valley of Oregon has long been known as a rich agricultural center. It is now becoming known for the growth of a new resource: Biotechnology. Direct proximity to major shipping and transportation routes has attracted biopharmaceutical, biomanufacturing and food processing companies to the area.

Linn-Benton Community College is committed to responding to the emerging needs of our community partners. Through a NSF Planning Grant, "Exploring Biotechnology: A Pathway to Prosperity in Rural and Urban Oregon?" the college is exploring two primary issues:

1) Does the existing biotechnology industry within the Willamette Valley have sufficient training and workforce needs to support the creation of dedicated educational and training programs?

2) How much additional investment in local education would provide a sufficiently skilled workforce to encourage additional biotech companies to relocate to the region?

The ATE Center Planning Grant will provide answers to these core planning questions. Results will be shared broadly with industry, workforce investment boards, educational institutions and government agencies.
