Wildland Firefighting

 2012 Entry Level Wildland Firefighting

 

April 27, 28, 29 and May 5, 6

8 am to 5 pm

 

 

$275 covers all course materials, field day and carding fees

 

 

LBCC is proud to offer Wildland Firefighter Training. Wildland firefighters assist in the suppression of wildfires in remote locations by digging firelines, fuels removal (brush, grass, etc) and laying hoses. Wildland firefighters may also provide assistance in national emergencies.

 

The lead instructor for these classes has over 20 years of wildland firefighting and forest management expereince and is certified through the National Wildfire Supression Association. All courses meet or exceed National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) 310-1 requirements.

Course Curriculum (Total Hours 40-43)

 

S-130, Firefighting Training
This course is designed to provede entry level firefighter skills. This course includes one day of field training.

S-190, Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior
This course provides instruction in the primary factors affecting the start and spread of wildfire and recognition of potentially hazardous situations.

I-100, Introduction to ICS
This course is an introudction to the Incident Command System (ICS). It provides the findamental knowledge for entry level personnel to function appropriately in the performance of incident-related duties.

L-180, Human Factors on the Fireline
This course is designed to provide a basic understanding of communication and human performance on the fireline. Topics include: situation awareness, basic communication responsibilities, decision-making processes and teamwork principles.

IS-700, National Incident Command System
This course introduces and overviews the National Incident Management System (NIMS). NIMS provides a consistent nationwide template to enable all government, private-sector and nongovernmental organizations to work together during domestic incidents. This is a 3-hour online class and exam. It is recommended that this be completed prior to class.

Minimum qualifications: You must be 18 years of age to be hired to fight wildfire. You may take the class prior to turning 18.

You must have two forms of government issued ID (one form must have a photo). Examples: passport, driver's license, permanent resident card, military ID card. Must be in good physical condition.

Field day requires gloves and boots.

Course Completion:  Those students who successfull complete the course will receive a certificate of completion. Students may find these credentials beneficial when applying for positions with:

Note: To perform work as an entry level wildland firefighter (FFT-2) you will need to pass a physical fitness pack test offered by your employer. A typical test is a three mile hike, on level terrain, carrying a 45 pound pack. This test must be completed in less than 45 minutes.

LBCC Refund/Cancellation Policy: No refund unless cancellation is 48 hours before the class. If you have not paid and not cancelled and don't show for the class, you will be billed for the class.
