Financial Aid

LBCC will be closed September 3rd through September 6th.  The college will reopen Tuesday, September 7th.

Welcome to the LBCC Financial Aid website.  We're here to help current and prospective students understand the requirements and procedures of the financial aid process.

Financial aid at LBCC is intended to help students who are unable to pay the full cost of a college education. Funds from grants, loans, and/or part-time employment are intended to supplement family and student resources.

Fall-2010: July 16, 2010
Winter-2011: November 5, 2010
Spring-2011: January 28, 2011

What is a Priority Deadline?  In order for your financial aid award to be processed and reviewed by our office, you will need to have all of your required documentation in by the posted Priority Deadline.  Note: This means you will need to be at Step 4 listed below.

If you miss the Priority Deadline, we will still process your file, but you will be responsible to cover your own expenses (living and educational) until we are able to do so. Click here to view a pdf file with a more detailed explanation of your responsibilities.

 LBCC'S FINANCIAL AID PROCESS

  1. Fill out the FAFSA.  Click here to be redirected to the FAFSA website.  Be sure to select LBCC as a school to receive your FAFSA. Our school Code is 006938.  To learn more about filling out the FAFSA, click here to take a FAFSA tutorial.  For a comprehensive guide to federal student aid, click here to view the publication from the U.S. Department of Education
  2. Wait for an e-mail notification from LBCC, which will indicate we have received your FAFSA.  It can take up to two weeks for us to receive it.
  3. The e-mail notification will ask you to login to your SIS account to view your individual outstanding requirements.  You can print the required documents from your SIS account.  Be sure to turn in your required documents.  Note: You must be admitted to LBCC to have a SIS account and proceed in the financial aid process.
  4. Once all of your required documents are in, you will be placed in line to be reviewed and awarded.  This waiting period typically takes ten to twelve weeks.  During peak times, the process can take even longer. Note: If your file was not selected for verification, your waiting time will be reduced.
  5. When your file is finally reviewed by an advisor, you may be asked to submit additional documentation, meet with an advisor, or clarify certain information.  If necessary, the financial aid advisor will make corrections to your FAFSA information.  It can take up to two weeks to get those corrections back from the federal government.  Important Tip: To assure your file is awarded in time for your upcoming term, turn in your required documents before the priority deadline dates listed above and respond promptly to any additional requests we may have.
  6. After the above steps are complete, your file will be awarded.  You will be notified via e-mail when you have been awarded.  You can view your award on your SIS account.  If you have questions or special circumstances, schedule a meeting with a financial aid advisor.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • Financial aid is awarded at full-time enrollment status (12 or more credits).  If you enroll at three-quarter time (9-11 credits), half-time (6-8 credits) or less than half-time (5 credits and under), your aid will be automatically adjusted accordingly.
  • If you attended another college during the same academic year, you will need to submit documentation showing that your financial aid has been cancelled at your previous school.
  • Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), more parents and students will qualify over the next two years for a tax credit, the American Opportunity Credit, to pay for college expenses. To learn more, click here.
  • Student records are private and confidential information and can only be accessed by the student. If you want your information released to another individual, you must complete the 'Information Disclosure Authorization' form and submit it in person, with picture identification, to the Financial Aid office.
  • Warning!! If you receive federal and/or state aid based on inaccurate information, you will have to pay it back. In addition, you also may have to pay fines and fees. If you purposely give false or misleading information on any documents used to determine your aid eligibility, you may be subject to a fine of $ 10,000, receive a prison term or both.
