Welcome to LBCC Online Courses

Welcome to Linn-Benton Community College eLearning Courses
NOTICE: Starting Fall 2009, LBCC is in the process of converting our Course Management System (CMS) from Blackboard to Moodle . Your online course(s) may be delivered in either system. Registered Students will be given online course access by participating in the Class Orientation.
Step 1: Create an Email Account
All LBCC eLearning classes require that you have a valid email account in order to participate in online interaction. If you don’t already have an email account, currently enrolled students may create a free LBCC email account at http://www.linnbenton.edu/go/netmail/apply. If you need assistance, call WebMail Support (541)917-4491.

Step 2: Attend Class Orientation
Most LBCC eLearning classes use the first class meeting listed in online and printed schedules for class orientation at LBCC’s Albany campus or elsewhere. Orientation is an important part of being successful in an online class, as these orientations focus on course content rather than technical skills, and this is when your instructor will let you know whether your course will run in Blackboard or Moodle. Students who do not attend orientation may be dropped from the class.  If you cannot attend a scheduled orientation please contact your instructor prior to the first class meeting. NOTE: Some courses, such as Medical Terminology have an online orientation only.
Step 3: Locate Course Information
To find course-specific information, visit http://www.linnbenton.edu/go/distance-education. Next, click on “COURSES OFFERED” and select the current term, then click on “DISPLAY COURSES” . From the resulting list, click the link for your class to see your course address, instructor contact and orientation information. Since we are transitioning from Blackboard to Moodle, you will need to contact your Instructor to determine in which system your course will be offered.

Step 4: Access Your Course
At your orientation, your Instructor will let you provide you with information on how to access your course. Your login information IS NOT the same as your email account or SIS login.  At that point, proceed to the LBCC eLearning login page at http://blackboard.linnbenton.edu to access your online course(s).

Step 5: Enrolling in online course(s) site you are registered for:
For courses running in Blackboard, you will need to self-enroll: Once you log in (create a new user account if you haven't already done so) to the LBCC Blackboard system, click on the "Courses" tab, and look for the Course Catalog, and then click on the category your course(s) fall under. Once you're in a specific category, click the "Enroll" button to the right of your course, and you will be prompted on how to enter your course. NOTE: If you are enrolled in a course you aren't registered for, you will need to contact the Instructor to remove you from that course.
For courses running in Moodle, the system will create your user account and enroll you into the course(s) for which you are registered. Your Moodle user name is your "X" number, and your Instructor will provide your starter password.

Step 6: Get Started in the On-line Classroom
Your online classroom will allow you to communicate with the Instructor, read the syllabus, complete assignments, take tests, and engage in discussion with your classmates.
Step 7: End-of Term
If you checked out course media materials, they must be returned to the library to clear your records and prevent a hold by the business office on grades, registration and transcripts. In addition, online students will be asked to complete a post-course survey to tell us about your experience online.

Class Participation and Technical Skills
To be a successful online student, you should have familiarity with basic online skills. Online courses may require regular participation from students several times each week. The time of day and day of week which you participate may be flexible, but you will encounter several deadlines each week which are not flexible. Please examine the course materials carefully and set up a study schedule for yourself to work on the course and to be online to help ensure ongoing, regular participation. If you encounter technical problems, please make sure your Internet browser’s security settings allow “cookies” and “javascript” to function properly. DO NOT USE THE AOL BROWSER!  Firefox is recommended; Internet Explorer 8 is not.
