Parenting Education

Family Resources and Education's Parenting Education Department offers classes and workshops for parents and other caregivers learning to help their children grow and develop, and for parent educators. Classes are offered at the Benton Center and other rural Benton Center Locations

Parent/Child Classes

  • Live and Learn with Your Baby
    An active participation class for parents and their infants (birth to beginning walkers). Provides parents with opportunities to discuss parenting topics, meet other parents and to join in activities with their baby.
  • Sign with Your Baby
    Learn how to teach your infant (up to 16 months) to communicate with you via sign language.
  • Live and Learn with Your Toddler.
    An active participation class for parents and their toddlers (walking to 2 1/2 years). An opportunity to discuss parenting topics, and to help plan and join in activities with your toddler.
  • Live and Learn: Fit Kids
    Participate in physical activities with your 18 mos. to 3-year-old and share the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
  • Live and Learn with Two Year Old
    An active participation class for parents and their two year olds. In a lab setting parents participate in developmentally appropriate activities with their child and learn guidance and communication techniques that support their child's development.
  • Creative Development Lab
    For parents and their 3 to 5 years olds focusing on creative activities (art, music and dramatic play). In two- 2 hour evening seminars parents focus on understanding and implementing a developmental approach to creative activities for young children.
  • Live and Learn with Your Preschooler - The Benton Center and Philomath Preschool Cooperatives
    Preschool cooperatives for parents and their 3, 4 and 5 year olds. Parents attend seminars arrange to work in the preschool lab. Enrollment for fall term begins the previous spring. Please call 917-4949 for information and availability

Parenting Classes (rotate among Benton County Sites)

  • Incredible Years
    For parents of children ages 2-10. Develop a cooperative parent/child relationship and strategies for managing difficult situations. This class is regularly offered in Philomath at Clemens School.
  • Parenting Pre-Teens and Teens
    For parents of 9 to 14 year olds (some classes include youth). Parents learn effective communication, conflict resolutions, improve parent-teen interaction and risk avoidance skills. This class is regularly offered in Philomath at Clemens School.
