2007 Ford Kimpton Scholarship

Jim Bell, Athletic Director and Amanda Douglass

Amanda Douglass won the 2007 Ford Kimpton Scholarship and was awarded the plaque at the annual end-of-season athletic social held June 5th, 2007. Jim Bell, Athletic Director, presented Amanda with her award while acknowledging her achievements on the volleyball court and academically in the classroom.

The Ford Kimpton Scholarship was established in 1995 in memory of Ford Kimpton who was employed September 1974 in the Physical Education & Athletic Department as the facility coordinator until retiring in 1982. The 15-credit scholarship is available to first-year athletes who plan on returning to LBCC the following year. Qualities that the athlete should possess are dedication, commitment to his/her team, sportsmanship and strong academics.

In her application essay, Amanda stated, "Because of sports I have learned many life lessons and skills. Simple skills such as communication, dedication, and team work, just to name a few, are all things that I have been able to use on and off the court in my everyday life. Athletics have given me goals to work toward in my studies. I know that I must be fully focused in my academics and achieve acceptable grades in order to continue playing."

Volleyball coach, Jayme Frazier, is very impressed with Amanda's commitment to her academic goals and dedication to her sport. "Amanda is very competitive and sets high standards in everything that she does. She is a great role model for other student-athletes and I cannot say enough about her work ethic. Amanda is just the type of coachable, hard-working athlete that exemplifies those qualities set forth by the Ford Kmpton Memorial Scholarship."

Amanda has been a cornerstone for recruiting the 2007 team and will make a big impact in the 2007 season.

Amanda plans to pursue a degree in radiology and currently holds a 3.5 grade point average after five terms as a full-time student.
