Valley Writers Series
The Valley Writers Series exists to connect beginning writers with professional writers and to provide opportunities for enrichment to Linn-Benton students and the Linn-Benton community. Valley Writers sponsors writers of regional or national prominence to give presentations/readings each term. The Series purposes are to stimulate creative writing among area students, to enhance literary awareness in our community, and to encourage Oregon writers.

VALLEY WRITERS PROGRAM for Fall 09
This term we are happy to celebrate our own esteemed writer, Karelia Stetz-Waters. Please see the details of this event below, and plan to come!

Thursday, Novebmer 5th, at 1:00 PM
North Santiam Hall (NSH-209) on Main Albany campus ,
Karelia Stetz-Waters is one of our own celebrated faculty in the English department. Stetz-Waters received a BA from Smith College and an MA from the University of Oregon. Her memoir Suburban Love Stories is set against the backdrop of the most famous anti-gay political campaign of the 1990s, is a tribute to the unexpected tolerance of small-town America, to youthful eccentrics, and to the people who protect them. Both hilarious and compassionate, it is a story about growing up human.
Stetz-Waters will read from her memoir and discuss her new novel in the works, Throwing from the Lie. Set in Portland, Oregon, and reminiscent of Tales of the City, this romantic comedy will appeal to anyone who believes in true love and wants to live in a city that sanctions an annual naked bike race. Her website can be found at http://www.kareliastetzwaters.com/. against the backdrop of the most famous anti-gay political campaign of the 1990s, Suburban Love Stories is a tribute to the unexpected tolerance of small-town America, to youthful eccentrics, and to the people who protect them.
