The Liberal Arts, Social Systems and Human Performance Division provides:
  • a substantial number of the core classes which make up the General Education requirements for the college's various degrees
  • several certificates and degrees preparing students for jobs
  • training for employed workers designed to enhance skills
  • information about child care and local resources and educational opportunities for families
  • a rich array of fine and performing arts activities and performances
  • a child care center for student families
The Division provides students with a learning environment that prepares them to be flexible, creative, life-long learners with a sense of confidence about an unknown future. We help students develop these skills:
  • to think abstractly; to order and make meaning of the massive flow of information
  • to think systemically; to see parts in relation to the whole for problem solving
  • to inquire experimentally; to set up procedures for testing and evaluating alternative ideas
  • to collaborate; to communicate actively to get a variety of perspectives and to reach consensus when necessary
  • job specific and "soft" skills leading to lifetime employability
  • curiosity resulting in flexible and creative thinking and the desire for lifelong learning
