Periwinkle Child Development Center
~ Children's Programs ~
At the Periwinkle Child Development Center, we believe that each child is a unique individual worthy of love and respect. We believe in supporting the individual needs and interests of our children. We also provide them with experiences they need to acquire the cognitive, physical, emotional, and social skills necessary for them to become successful, contributing members of their family and community.
All of the children at our center get plenty of fun opportunities to explore their environment, develop their creativity, make new friends, and acquire a solid foundation for future learning. Our curriculum builds off the knowledge, learning style and interests of our children in order to encourage their success and joy in learning.
PCDC classrooms are designed to meet children's developmental needs at different ages. Enroll your child at 18 months -- we will care for him/her through kindergarten!
Toddlers (18 through 30 months)
The small size of our toddler group ensures that our youngest children receive the support
they need as they grow in their independence. Teachers are always at hand to encourage
early socialization and language, as well as to help children gain control over their
bodies (Potty training is not a required for enrollment.) Our classroom environment
provides for manageable challenges as toddlers explore their world and develop their
motor skills and coordination.
Preschoolers (2 1/2 through 5 years)
Our two preschool classrooms offer young children daily opportunities to explore art,
science, books, music, movement, and play. These experiences enable our preschoolers to
develop their intellectual, physical, and social skills. Throughout the day children make
self-directed and guided choices, participate in small groups, and projects, and join in
whole group circle times.
Kindergarten (5 to 6 years)
The PCDC offers a full day kindergarten program in partnership with the Greater Albany
Public School District. The PCDC kindergarten provides a comprehensive program that supports
all areas of your child's development. Full-day kindergarten allows time for a broadened
and enriched curriculum, as well as increased time for in-depth instruction in content
areas and intentional teaching of social skills such as problem solving and group process.
The PCDC curriculum conforms to Oregon Academic Content Standards for kindergarten and
provides lots of opportunities for enrichment and hands-on learning.
