Q: What classes are offered and where can I get more
information on them?
A: There are a total of twelve courses in our Library Science series, with two courses
being offered per academic year term (fall/winter/spring), over the span of two years.
You can visit our "Classes in the Series" page for
course titles and descriptions; if you need more specific information
on what a course covers, call us at (541) 917-4897 and we'll get you in touch with an instructor.
Q: How is the class graded?
A: Grading mode for the class is "optional". This means you may elect to receive either
a letter grade (A through F) or a Pass/No Pass grade. If you wish to receive a
Pass/No Pass grade, you must inform the instructor before the start of your first class;
otherwise the instructor will utilize the letter grade method.
Q: How long is each class?
A: 11 weeks, with 2 seminar hours per week.
Q: What is the cost?
A: Classes are three credits each; current costs are $65.00/credit, or a total cost of
$195.00 per class. Note: costs for these classes will show up as "fees" on your student
account, rather than as "tuition".
Q: Are there textbooks or any other costs besides those noted above?
A: There are no textbooks for these classes, nor are there any additional fees.
Q: Who is the instructor and what is his background?

Q: Where are the classes held?
A: Classes are held in the evenings on LBCC's main campus in Albany.
Q: Is there a minimum class size?
A: Typically, a class must have 12 students enrolled in order to run. The Library Science
classes are run on a "cost recovery basis", which means that we must have enough students
enrolled to cover instructional costs in order to hold a class. Class size is monitored at
the start of term to ensure that we have sufficient students to hold class. If we do not,
we will notify each student at the phone number they have listed in our system, and students
will be automatically "dropped" from the class.
Q: Do I need to be admitted to LBCC to take these classes?
A: You do not have to be officially admitted ("matriculated") to take these classes; however, you must be in
the LBCC student system. If you have never taken classes previously at LBCC, please call (541)
917-4897 for information on how to get set up. Additionally, if you have been a student in
the past but it has been over a year since you have taken a class, then you will most likely
need to be reactivated before you can register. Please contact our Registration Office at
(541) 917-4812 to be reactivated.
Q: Do I have to wait to start at the beginning of the sequence?
A: No, classes may be taken in any sequence; additionally, you may take "year 2" classes
before taking "year 1" classes.
Q: I went into "SIS" (the LBCC Student
Information System) and I couldn't find these classes listed. How do I locate them?
A: When logged into SIS, or
utilzing the "RoadMap" feature, you will need to look
under the heading "Education/Child and Family Studies" for the Library
Science class listings.
Q: How do I register? Can I register in class?
A: Registration must be done through the LBCC Student Information System (SIS), or
at the registration counter of main campus or any of the Centers (Benton Center in Corvallis,
East Linn Center in Lebanon, or Sweet Home Center). Registrations cannot be accepted by
the instructor or processed over the phone. Additionally, since class size is monitored
prior to the start of each term in order to ensure that there are enough students enrolled to run that class, it's important
to register as early as possible.

Q: When can I register?
A: Open registration for each term usually begins soon after the printed schedule
for that term is mailed out. Watch for your schedule to arrive (all Linn and Benton County
residents receive our printed schedule automatically) and refer to the "Term Calendar" page
for specific dates. You may also contact us at (541) 917-4897 , or go to SIS and click on the link "How to check your Registration Status
or Grades" for information on dates.
Q: What do I earn for attending and passing each class?
A: Three LBCC credits. Unoffical transcripts can be obtained through SIS.
Q: Is there a certificate?
A: Currently we are only issuing certificates of completion upon request from the student.
If you have taken and passed all twelve classes in the series and would like a certificate issued,
please contact Jane at (541) 917-4912. If your district is requesting documentation of your coursework,
you might also want to check and see if they will accept unofficial transcripts for that purpose.
Q: I missed a class in the sequence; can I still take it later?
A: Classes can be taken in any sequence whatsoever; a missed class can be taken the next
time it is offered.
Q: What else do I need to know?
A: The deadline to drop a class with a full refund is by Friday of the second week of
term. The deadline to withdraw from a class is the Friday of the seventh week of class.
Tuition and/or fees are due by Friday of the second week of class. Please refer to the front
