Distinguished Alumni

Established in 2005, LBCC's Distinguished Alumni Award honors alumni who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in their profession and/or through service to their community.

Recipients should have:

  • Made a significant contribution to LBCC, the community, the nation or education over a period of time
  • Completed a minimum of 36 credits at LBCC

Nominations are accepted year-round, with a yearly deadline at the end of March. Applications are reviewed in April, with approval by LBCC's president and the Board of Education. An award reception will be held in April for recipients.

Brad Gohr, Julie Huckestein and Mary "Dee" Deems

Brad Gohr - 2015 Distinguished AlumniBRAD GOHR - President and CEO of Veterinary Services Incorporated (VSI)

Brad graduated from LBCC in 1992 with an associate's degree in Animal Science. He was a member of the highest placing LBCC team ever to compete at the National Western Stock in Denver, which took third place. He then transferred to Oregon State University where he earned his bachelor's degree. Brad started working for VSI while still a student in LBCC's Animal Science Program. VSI is a $175 million employee-owned animal health product distribution company with branches throughout the Western United States.

Julie Huckestein - 2015 Distinguished AlumniJULIE HUCKESTEIN - President, Chemeketa Community College
Julie graduated from LBCC in 1996 with an associate's degree in business administration.  She went on to earn her bachelor's degree in management and organizational leadership from George Fox University, and a master's degree in education policy and administration from Portland State University. Prior to Chemeketa, Julie held several positions in the LBCC Business Office, beginning as an accounting analyst and was eventually promoted to director of Budget and Finance, a position she held until 2001. 


Mary "Dee" Deems - 2015 Distinguished AlumniMARY "DEE" DEEMS - This posthumous award is dedicated to Mary “Dee” Deems,
who passed away February 16, 2015

Dee graduated from LBCC in 1979 with an associate's degree in general education,and transferred to Willamette University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science and Urban and Regional Government. She went on to earn a master's degree in Adult Education from Oregon State University.  Dee worked in various positions at LBCC, including at the Lebanon Center, directing the then "Albany Center," and helping to build LBCC's Community Education division into one of the largest in Oregon.
