Frequently Asked Questions

Q: English is not my first language, but I speak and write well enough. Why should I work with an IS-ELL?

A:  IS-ELLs are trained specifically to work with students whose first language is not English. We are trained to understand how people learn languages and how to teach language skills. Many of us have also studied other languages, so we know how difficult and frustrating it can sometimes be.

We know a lot about the English language, as well as the similarities and differences between English and many other languages. We can also give you detailed answers to your questions that many native speakers of English may not know.  Even if your level of English is advanced, we can teach you different strategies on how to continue improving your skills.

Here are some of the skills we can help you with:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Listening
  • Speaking
  • Paraphrasing
  • Grammar
  • Vocabulary

  • TOEFL and IELTS Preparation
  • Using MLA and APA documentation styles
