Achieving the Dream

LBCC is committed to helping students succeed. Graduation is a big part of that success, and Achieving the Dream (ATD) is a tool the college is using to help identify strengths and improve on our shortfalls.

Using data to make informed decisions, the college has implemented several initiatives around student success, including Destination Graduation class, assigning advisors for students, and accelerated writing and math programs.

Data will help us determine if these initiatives are helping our students, and in what way. With ATD, we are actually tracking our students, rather than faculty, classes or budgets. Tracking our students will help us determine the correct course of action to help them succeed and complete their goals.

About Achieving the Dream
Achieving the Dream, Inc.
is a national nonprofit that is dedicated to helping more community college students, particularly low-income students and students of color, stay in school and earn a college certificate or degree. Evidence-based, student-centered, and built on the values of equity and excellence, ATD is working to close achievement gaps and accelerate student success nationwide by:

Guiding evidence-based institutional improvement

Influencing public policy

Generating knowledge

Engaging the public

Conceived as an initiative in 2004 by Lumina Foundation and seven founding partner organizations, today, Achieving the Dream leads the most comprehensive non-governmental reform network for student success in higher education history. With nearly 200 colleges, 100 coaches and advisors, and 15 state policy teams - working throughout 32 states and the District of Columbia - Achieving the Dream helps 3.75 million community college students have a better chance of realizing greater economic opportunity and achieving their dreams.

LBCC Dream Initiatives
LBCC has implemented and is measuring efforts designed to help more students succeed than ever before. The college is focusing efforts on first-year experience to equip students with the knowledge and connections that help them flourish and reach their goals.
