Course description: The first of three courses in the Administration of Microsoft Windows® client/server networked operating systems. The courses CS240A, CS240B, and CS240C are laboratory-intensive courses that provide hands-on experience in the planning, installation, and administration of Microsoft® Windows® client/server networks. The three courses provide partial preparation for Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist®  (MCTS) certifications on Microsoft Windows Server 2008®..

Prerequisites (required and/or strongly recommended):

Co-requisite (required or strongly recommended):

The instructor's electronic "Signature" is required to enroll.

Textbook: We use the Microsoft Official Academic Course© curriculum series of textbooks for CS240A/B/C. This means:

To access many other good references On-Line, I recommend:

Online Discussion:
The course
Blackboard WebSite includes a Discussion Board with Forums intended for each chapter. Its purpose is to facilitate contact among students, and with the instructor, "24/7". Details about the Chapter Assignments and other course topics will be posted there. My experience is that many of the best students in my courses are regular users of the Discussion Board. If you see a question posted by another student, feel free to contribute constructively to the discussion. The instructor will try to monitor the Discussion Board and respond to questions.

The following policies regarding "Y" and "Incomplete" grades are standards in the LBCC Computer Systems Department:

"Y" grades: "It is the responsibility of the student to withdraw from the course if they do not wish to receive a letter grade.  The last day to withdraw is listed in the current schedule of classes.  There will be no "Y" grades given for this course."

"Incomplete" grades:
"
If a student has satisfactorily completed most of the course work, but has encountered an emergency which, in the instructor's judgment, is sufficiently serious, the instructor will prepare an Incomplete Agreement specifying the work that the student needs to complete, by the end of the following term, to earn the remaining credit for the course. The Agreement will specify a default grade based on the work which the student has completed to date. In case the student does not fulfill the Agreement, the default grade will automatically be assigned at the end of the following term."

In-class hands-on lab work:
As stated above, we will spend as much of our course time as possible doing hands-on lab work.
Students are expected to be present and fully involved for the entire 2:20 hour class sessions. (You may take a "comfort break" whenever you wish.). The instructor will designate appropriate activities based on both the “Required” text and also on other materials. These other materials will include both books and Internet sites. You are expected to take good notes of your work on these Projects, and, to post a write-up of those results on the Blackboard WebSite at least one hour before class (i.e. 1200) on the specified day. Full participation as noted by the instructor during the class session and posted in a good write-up will earn full credit for both participation and write-up. Write-ups posted on the Blackboard WebSite less than one week late will receive a 10-20% reduction in credit. Lab write-ups later than one week will not receive any credit.

Students with Disabilities:
You should meet with your instructor during the first week of class if
